Children's privacy notice
How we handle information about children under 13, in plain words.
Draft: this notice is waiting for legal review.
Who this is for
Children can use Trivia in three ways. As a guest, a child joins a game with a room code and a nickname, and we collect nothing else. As a student, a teacher makes the account for their class. With a child account, a parent gives consent first.
What we collect, and why
- Guests: a nickname, kept for the game and its results. No account, no email, no tracking.
- Students: the first name or alias their teacher typed, a picture password, and their game answers, so the teacher can see class reports. Students never give an email address.
- Child accounts: a username, password and display name, the month and year of birth, the parent's email address, and game answers and scores.
We only use this to run games, show progress and keep the service safe.
What we never do
- Show ads, or load third-party trackers on any page a child uses.
- Sell or share children's information.
- Send marketing emails to children.
- Show children on public profiles or leaderboards, or let them publish packs, write reviews, buy anything or use AI generation.
Schools
When a teacher makes student accounts, their school consents on parents' behalf, for educational use only, and accepts our school data agreement. Teachers can download or delete their students' data at any time. When a student is removed or a classroom is archived, that data is deleted 30 days later.
Parents' rights
Before a child account can be used, we email the parent a notice like this one and ask for consent. Parents can review their child's information, download it, delete it, or withdraw consent any time from the parent portal. A child account that isn't used for 12 months is deleted.
